Tutorial # 10: Stamping, marking for beginners

10,00

Stamping or Marking (also “Hallmarking”) is an embossing technique in which patterns or ornaments are stamped into metal using punches. As it is easy to slip, stamping is complicated for beginners. I have therefore developed an alternative method, which this tutorial is dedicated to.

Stamping is a traditional embossing technique used to decorate metal surfaces by imprinting patterns, ornaments, or lettering with specialized punches. Precise hammer blows create indentations that shape the desired design, making this method popular in jewelry making, leather decoration, and metal art.

However, traditional stamping (also “Marking” or “Hallmarking”) can be challenging for beginners due to the risk of slipping. In this tutorial, I introduce an alternative method: commercially available punches are modified so that the embossed pattern stands 5 mm high. The design is then secured with adhesive tape on the metal surface before being hammered in, ensuring greater accuracy and ease of use.
