Tutorial # 11: Collecting jewellery ideas while travelling

20,00

I always have the desire for goldsmithing with me when I travel: in Thailand and Malaysia, I captured jewellery ideas with silicone rubber. The modelling silicone can be used to create small shapes or mould surface structures.

My passion for goldsmithing is something I carry with me wherever I go. During my travels through Thailand and Malaysia, I often found myself inspired by the textures, patterns, and small details I came across. To capture those ideas on the spot, I like working with silicone rubber.

This versatile material is perfect for creating small shapes or taking surface impressions – quickly and without needing much equipment. The two-part molding silicone is easy to mix, and within just two minutes it starts to harden. After around 20 minutes, it forms a solid mold.

Whether it’s spirals, folds, spheres, or the delicate texture of a seashell or leaf – molding silicone makes it easy to preserve those details. These impressions later become the basis for unique fine jewelry designs. Back in my studio, I use sand casting or metal clay to make pieces of jewellery from the silicone.

For me, molding silicone is a creative tool that lets me freeze fleeting moments and turn them into lasting pieces. Capturing jewelry ideas while traveling has never been so simple – or so inspiring.
