This sterling-silver pendant draws its character from an unconventional yet beautifully textured source: the wrinkled surface of a salami / sausage skin. At the head of a cured salami, the casing often forms intricate folds that resemble delicate fabric. Instead of replicating this by hand, the texture is taken directly from nature.
To begin, the organic pattern of the casing is pressed into prepared sand casting moulds, creating a precise negative impression. Molten silver is then poured into the form, capturing every ridge and crease with remarkable clarity. Once the metal has cooled, the sprue is removed and the surface refined. A custom-made silver bail is soldered on to transform the cast form into a wearable pendant.
The result is a contemporary piece that celebrates raw texture, traditional silver casting techniques, and the beauty of unexpected materials. It stands as a distinctive example of how Thomas Proft (4H Jewellery) blends craftsmanship with curiosity, elevating simple everyday elements into refined, meaningful jewellery.
