In this video, I show how two wide silver strips are crafted into distinctive size-60 band rings, each shaped with a different goldsmithing approach. The first ring is formed through careful forging to create a soft concave profile, while the second ring is built up into a convex curve using a series of controlled punch marks.
The tutorial highlights how responsive silver is to stretching and compressing, and why accurate ring-size calculationsare essential when shaping wide bands. Through a combination of directional hammering, measured force, and selective texturing, each ring develops its own unique surface — whether a reflective hammered finish or a more granular, artisanal punched pattern.
Alongside the shaping process, I explain practical considerations such as material thickness, choosing the right punching tools, maintaining an even curvature, and distributing texture cleanly across the band. With the right technique, wide silver rings can be curved either inward or outward with surprising ease. This step-by-step demonstration provides both beginners and advanced makers with reliable methods for achieving stable, well-balanced results.
